“It was an act of pure evil.”
What the President has failed to address or merely acknowledge though, is the method with which “an act of pure evil” was carried out.
Hundreds of our fellow citizens are now mourning the sudden loss of a loved one, a parent, a child, a brother or sister. We cannot fathom their pain, we cannot imagine their loss. To the families of the victims, we are praying for you and we are here for you. And we ask God to help see you through this very dark period.
Scripture teaches us the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. We seek comfort in those words, for we know that God lives in the hearts of those who grieve. To the wounded who are now recovering in hospitals, we are praying for your full and speedy recovery, and pledge to you our support from this day forward.
In memory of the fallen, I have directed that our great flag be flown at half-staff.
But what scripture predominately warns us of is our inclinations towards self-destruction. Asking God to help see you through this is self-deception. God has already provided and yet we refuse to take heed. A vicious cycle of epic proportions. Please understand that there is no speedy recovery for those whom are injured, and there is absolutely no recovery from loss loved ones who were murdered in this tragedy.
The flag flown at half-staff, though customary, puts us in a double bind that is irreconcilable, where loyalty and subjugation is demanded, contradictorily, as we stand clearly divided (ant. indivisible), with tyranny (ant. liberty), and injustice (ant. justice) over mass shootings and the precursors to gun violence.
There is more to this double bind that we are trapped into and I am disagreeable to the following past statements and thought process from our President.
No one, not even police or SWAT could have prevented this tragedy. The many lives saved is irrelevant from the eventual intervention from law enforcement which is simply cause and effect. It is said that the gunman took his own life after law enforcement located and broke through to incapacitate him.
No one from the ground could even tell where the shots were exactly coming from.
I am not sure what is meant by this. We do, unfortunately live in a society that is unsafe to express rights in peaceable protest or have dispassionate debate and representation of views and values. That this society has been made unsafe by the availability of guns in varying magnitudes of destructive power is profoundly the reason why armed bodyguards are necessary. As for Trump himself, he seemingly takes pride in this fact which is like playing a deadly game of roulette.
Violence of all kinds should be discouraged. It appears we ignore at great lengths and with fallacious reasoning the applicability of the 2nd amendment. We tend to see, and hear what we want to believe and fail to take into account the data driven or data informed logic and rationale on this subject.
All in all I am not comforted by the President’s remarks in the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas. I am more so left disheartened by them.
