Mad Because You Can’t Put Your Milk In Our Lemonade

Yahoo released an article provided by the New York (AFP) today titled, Beyoncé Celebrates Black Women in Intricate Album-Film. It was an informative piece that summarily introduced the release of “Lemonade”, a video album featured as an HBO Special last night. The article highlights what could be perceived or what was generally received by social media reactions as “an artistic announcement of separation from her real-life husband, rap mogul Jay-Z”.

But that was merely a sliver of a personal and scandalous betrayal that percolates through from Beyonce’s conscious and gets exposed in the art form. Lemonade also depicts majorly some maternal and subcultural themes of the Black woman, in a world evincing a rather unapologetic inattentiveness towards, and is seemingly and largely unsympathetic about. One of the more poignant of messages splayed during the feature was of the late civil rights leader and icon Malcolm X’s overlooked and overarching retort about the most disrespected person in America: Black Women.

If one couldn’t imagine it audibly from the album’s first single “Formation”, then the reality surely seeped in with the vividly placed cinematic motion stills strung together and narrated in a rapid procession of sung and spoken dialogue from the pop icon dubbed Queen Bey.

Beyonce has consistently exceeded expectations and now this most recent album release seems to have come at some cost to her in sociopolitical currency. A cost which she certainly has more than enough spare change to dispense with. There is a part of the world whom she left wagging their hand in celebration of independence and womanhood that left them hungover, but suddenly awakened from a party that imbibed them with oozing sexuality and defiance. This time around they are invited to take notes and reflect on a underrepresented aspect of society to which she inherently belongs; by the way she was never left abandoned, only to be found and adopted by pop fandom. She has always exposed her roots.

Beyonce has proudly placed a spotlight on a group that has long been served and embittered by systemic injustice and inequality. This is being expressed even from the most intimate of proximities: Black men. Beyonce appears unfazed and undaunted by the resentment that follows as she leads without hesitation the Black Lives Matter chorus much more significantly from a Black woman’s perspective.

This piece opens with noting the source of the article and what prompted this was the rancor that followed in the comments section. White people, it seems have taken offense to the enlightenment that decorate the album’s illustrious release and social vibe. The incredibly absurd comments that follow harbor resentment of the relatively narrow success of notable Blacks socioeconomically. There is mention of “whites repairing race relations” only to be betrayed by “Black racism”. Yeah, to receive recognition for something you were forced and implored to do because it stands in stark contradiction to the constitution you pledge to. The sour milk pouring out here is really rotten and you should know by now of our intolerance.

There is a sense that there is a misuse of freedom of speech when Blacks highlight injustices and speak out against it. That there is hypocrisy in the way Blacks feel and express themselves which leaves the majority of the population uncomfortable. This unsurprising thought process is a white trash mentality. A mentality entrenched in cultural bias with uncouth responses and approaches to resolving the cultural disparity of American society. Furthermore, it is an ill-advised assertion of moral and cultural superiority. These viewpoints encourage Blacks to stay in the relegated lanes of society that leads to segregated and apportioned off destinations in life’s pursuit of liberty and happiness. The awkwardness of the white trash mentality is hardly challenged in any substantive way. It is merely highlighted and unconscionably normalized.

The white trash mentality is in constant conflict about national identity, as the more wealthier class of whites tend to not subscribe fully to such notions but do little to denounce it. That sort of psychosis has lead to a fractured conservative party and a hypocritical liberal base that gets strung along by political elites that continue to play middle and lower class races against each other for political power and economic gains. The aggressive attempts to succeed by Blacks accompanied by their pronounced challenges to the status quo portend to their un-enlightened and ill-perceived gradual withdrawal of limited resources that privilege whites. But one should never consider it to be a privilege to be so ignorant.

Beyonce’s music is but one aspect of the rejection of white trash mentality and the insults and assaults that it inspires. The sowing of all these lemons which has undoubtedly been harvested en masse only to hurl in great supply towards Blacks and other minorities that they subconsciously feel suspicious of with deep-seated resentment. However, the more lemons you continue to throw at Beyonce the more refreshing of lemonades gets churned right back out.
