Racism Can Now Be Described As Some Legitimate Out-Of-Body Experience For Whites
The most populous county in New Jersey has a sheriff named Michael Saudino who was elected and has been re-elected to his position since 2010. Sheriff Saudino is up for re-election again in 2019. According to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office website the role and responsibility of the Sheriff ranges from order and security at the Justice Center, to care and custody of the inmates at the county jail. The responsibilities also include “assisting the 68 municipal police departments by providing advanced forensic procedures through its Bureau of Criminal Investigation”¹. It can be gleaned that the Sheriff is both the long and strong arm of the of law.
Reportedly yesterday, September 20, 2018, WNYC published an audio recording of Sheriff Saudino making racist remarks about 1)Black people, 2) Gurbir Grewal, the first Sikh in the country to hold the office of Attorney General, and 3) homophobic remarks about Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, in a rant disparaging the newly elected governor of New Jersey succeeding Chris Christie. According to the Washington Post, excerpts of the secret recording are transcribed below…
“He talked about the whole thing, the marijuana, sanctuary state … better criminal-justice reform,” he says of the governor. “Christ almighty, in other words let the blacks come in, do whatever … they want, smoke their marijuana, do this, do that, and don’t worry about it. You know, we’ll tie the hands of cops.”
Later Saudino says that Gurbir Grewal, the first Sikh attorney general in the country, was appointed by Murphy solely because of his religion.
“He didn’t do that to help Bergen County. He did that because of the turban,” he says.
In the recording, Saudino also wonders about the sexuality of the state’s lieutenant governor, Sheila Y. Oliver, who is unmarried.
“Is she gay?” he asks, according to WNYC, “because she’s never been married.”
Hiding in plain sight
Sheriff Saudino was first elected as a Republican in 2010, then changing parties in 2016 to win re-election as a Democrat to declare his standing as the longest-serving law enforcement officer in the county with over 47 years of service. We should still disabuse ourselves of the misnomer that Democrats are synonymous with or suggestive of egalitarian ideals and arbiters for the merits of diversity.
Now here is where the out of body expereince theory comes into play here. When confronted about these racist remarks Sheriff Saudino did not deny making them as heard in the recordings, however, on Thursday evening Saudino apologizes in a statement as follows…
“These remarks are not representative of the person that I am and they are in no way consistent with the manner in which I have conducted my life personally and as a law enforcement professional with over 46 years of service to the residents of Bergen County,”
This instance of depersonalization as a plausible excuse after calls from many local officials for Saudino to resign is all too typical and a bit overdone to say the least. This alleged dissociative disorder occuring at the most opportune of times when spewing hateful and disparaging remarks against minorities is oftentimes legitimated with copious benefit of the doubt within a majoritarian regime like the United States.
Surely, many who have read or heard about this would simply conclude that the Sheriff is lying his ass off to save face and to continue his reign. Since his statements were not made under oath presumably it is okay for an official in his capacity to lie just like the president does. Even though it is clearly a breach of trust and a misrepresentation to his constituents in Bergen County. Or is it? 🤔
While Sheriff Saudino admitted making those statements in the recording, can we prove that he is lying about the person he is personally and professionally? If so, what incarnation is Sheriff Saudino referring to as not representative of his personal and professional character?🤔
Here is a better question, does whiteness create a desirable dissociative state intent on an agenda of racial hierarchy conflictive with humanity, whereby racist outbursts, attitudes, and behaviors like these should be seen as a side effect in their withdrawal from reality in the inverse?
There are nearly a million residents in Bergen County, about 20 percent of whom are Latino, 17 percent Asian and 7 percent black, according to census figures cited by WNYC.
I ponder the absurdity or rather the vanity and insanity of whiteness in so much as how just 7 percent of the population is so visibly disturbing and inferior to a top elected official in law enforcement. I ponder how this small population can only be seen as a blight on our multicultural society. This is indicative of how structurally sound racism is and how incredibly pervasive it is to detect and dismantle.
If it weren’t for this secret recording.
Any progress made in a leap forward seems like four steps back with the rug pulled from underneath you.
